Everyone's A Salsa Dancer Print E-mail

I was sitting in a hotel lounge listening to a singer belting out some old favourites, and as he turned up the volume on a catchy tune I noticed an older lady sitting nearby. She obviousy had some mobility problems, and had a stick at her side as she sat painfully in her chair. But although she was in some pain, her eyes brightened at the music and she began to nod her head in time. Next she began humming the tune and tapping her hands on her lap. I know it's rude to stare but I couldn't help but watch her as did something amazing... she danced in her chair! She swayed her hips, moved her hands in choreographed movements, and did dance steps on the floor beneath her seat. I saw her closing her eyes and knew that she was imagining herself back in the dance halls in her younger days when she skipped effortlessly over the floor. And it was then I realised that God has made everyone with youth and music in our hearts, and old age or arthritis or life's limitations can not quench it. Don't let life wear you down but set your heart free, because everyone's a salsa dancer!!

Jesus All For Jesus Print E-mail

It's 1.30am in the morning and I've just been wakened by daughter who isn't feeling well. I'm sitting on her bed comforting her and trying to keep my eyes open. All I want to do is fall asleep in my nice warm bed, but my daughter needs me and I smile as I know my love for her will keep me with her to see her through. Love is so powerful it can enable us to do things we would normally find very difficult to do. And when we love people no matter their situation, people recognise the genuineness of our love and may well respond to it. The Scottish Action For Refugees is currently collecting items at Hairmyres Hospital to pass on to the refugees moving through Europe. And items of warm clothing, footwear, camping equipment, toiletries can be left in the hospital "sanctuary". To love people is to love Jesus. And all we do is for Jesus, all for Jesus!

Flies Have Feelings Too Print E-mail

I know you'll think I'm losing my marbles, but I was on holiday about to squash a fly which I thought had been particularly annoying, when a thought came to me.... flies have feelings too! Now I'm not advocating that flies have the same emotional intelligence as a human being, Jeff Goldblum aside, but God made this fly that I was about to squash and does it not have a right to live also? God's creation is vast and varied, from the sub atomic world to the cosmos. And every part of His creation tells us something of God HImself and His amazing attributes. Did you know that flies have 4000 lenses on their eyes and can see 360 degrees all around. Does that not speak of God's amazing ability to see all that is happening in the world at any one time? Even flies reflect the glory of God if we have eyes to see!

Longing For Closeness Print E-mail

Everyone in life longs to be close to someone else, because this is how God has made us. We long to not just know people as acquaintances, but to know a few in a much deeper way, and maybe one other person in an intimate way. This was how it was for Jesus himself. Of all the people he knew as acquaintances, he had 12 good friends, and of those friends he had 3 (Peter, James, John) with whom he shared in a deeper way. And then he had one, John, with whom he had a closer relationship still. And this is why John wrote about LOVE more than any of the other New Testament writers. Jesus longs to be close to you because of the deep deep love he has for you. He wants intimacy, closeness, friendship, fellowship, oneoness with you!

"Behold I stand at the door (of your heart) and knock, and if anyone opens the door I will come in" Jesus

Finding True Love Print E-mail

Everybody wants to find true love in life. It's deeply embedded in the very fabric of our beings because God made us this way. We not only WANT true love but we NEED it. Just like a plant thrives or dies with or without water, so we are the same with true love. And without it we experience such longing, like an inner thirst. The Bible, which is God's life manual for us, says we are blessed if we thirst and that we shall be filled. But how can God promise us this, because so many people obviously do NOT discover true love and live very lonely lives? It is because God has created this inner thirst to lead us to Jesus. Now Jesus might not be the one we are knowingly searching for, but he is the one we need. He is TRUE LOVE. I've found him. And so can you. Bless youSmile
